Training Overview

Are religious exemptions to your vaccine mandate legitimate? Learn how to identify legally permissible requests.

Due to the Delta variant’s growth and FDA full approval of the Pfizer vaccine, many more organizations are mandating their employees receive COVID-19 vaccines before entering the workplace. A significant number of individuals are saying, “My religion prevents me from getting vaccinated.” While some have valid justifications, the vaccine-hesitant are finding religion as a way to avoid mandates.

Just because an employee claims the need for a religious accommodation does not mean that the employee is entitled to it. The stance of various religions complicates this analysis. Only two (Christian Scientists and the Dutch Reform Church) take an official anti-vaccine stance as a tenet of their faith. However, this does not stop employees from relying on other religions to opt-out of vaccine requirements.
